Tasting- "Chocovine"

Name of the wine: Chocovine

Variety of the grape(s) in the wine: Cabernet Sauvignon

Country and region of origin: It says the wine is from the Netherlands on the website I found but it does not list a region. It says the grapes are French, while the chocolate and cream are from Holland, Netherlands (https://www.totalwine.com/wine/dessert-fortified-wine/chocolate-wine/chocovine-chocolate-wine/p/108170750). However, on the front of the wine it says Dutch Chocolate.

Vintage year: Not listed/unknown

Price: $10

Shop/wine critic/winery review of the wine: The critic describes this wine as very sweet. They say that at first you get a taste of the alcohol, then you get an intense chocolate flavor. The reviewer also compares the wine to yoo-hoo, by saying that it tastes like a spiked chocolate milk. http://intoxicology.net/yoo-hoo-for-adults-chocovine-review/

References of specific flavors, aromas, and grape varietal characteristics taken directly from the Wine Folly text, with page numbers referenced: Since there was not a section in the Wine Folly book for Chocolate wine, I looked under the Cabernet Sauvignon wine section because that was the types of grapes that were in the chocolate wine. The book mentions on page 88 how Cabernet Sauvignon has a big body with low sweetness and high tannins, which is most likely why they chose this grape type for the chocolate wine to help balance out the sweet chocolate flavor. The book also mentions on page 88 how Cabernet Sauvignon usually has flavors of black cherry, black currant, cedar, baking spices, and graphite.

Your review: It was very chocolatey and very sweet. It tasted specifically like Hershey's milk chocolate bar that was mixed with water and maybe a light wine. I honestly could not really taste much of the wine. I also thought it was a little bit odd and really thick. I wouldn’t mind a small glass of this every now and then as a dessert, but it is way too sweet to have more than one glass or to drink regularly.

I did not drink this with food.
